Greece is on the Watch List in 2014

special-301The US recognizes the positive development for Greece in trademark protection and the new trademark law which initiated the Illegal Trade Coordination Center (SYKAP). The efforts of the national police, customs, and financial police are also noticeable; they have made investigations and confiscations of counterfeit and pirated goods. The US acknowledges also the role of the Tax Police in Greece in addressing enterprise end-user software piracy.

The United States` further recommendations in the sphere of IPR protection and enforcement for Greece are: pursuing the efforts to implement the 2009 IPR Action Plan, fully implementing legislation and regulations that provide administrative fines for software infringement, ensuring the effective legal mechanisms to address piracy over the Internet, including by implementing existing measures that allow civil actions by rights holders concerning piracy over the Internet, as well as by providing ISPs with clear incentives to cooperate with rights holders in removing unauthorized content. Greece should also continue to address issues in the judicial system that restraint fighting Internet piracy and counterfeiting industry.
