The Office for harmonization in the internal market OHIM, through the Observatory on infringements of intellectual property rights, in partnership with the European Commission DG TRADE’s IP Unit, launched the EU Delegation Network in 2014. The objectives of the network are to increase the effectiveness with which EU Delegations deal with intellectual property matters; help EU companies protect their IP assets in third countries and build awareness and knowledge within EU Delegations of IP and how it fits into the global framework. The Network is made up of staff of EU Delegations who lead on IP issues in dealing with third countries.
The next meeting of the network will take place on 17 July 2015 in Brussels and will be held at the occasion of the DG TRADE Annual Meeting on the Trade Policy. The agenda includes: OHIM flagship projects; update on the Observatory activities; a presentation on the Anti-Counterfeiting Rapid Intelligence System (ACRIS); updates on the DG TAXUD’s customs cooperation with third countries; DG GROWTH trade mark reform and an update on the IPR Helpdesks activities.
The Observatory on infringements of intellectual property rights network is composed of public- and private-sector representatives, who collaborate in active working groups. Although the Observatory has no direct enforcement powers, it brings together a wide range of stakeholders who use their technical skills, experience and knowledge to protect and promote IP rights and support those directly engaged in enforcement.
